Dove - Cost of Beauty Campaign

I created this piece for a Dove event for their Cost of Beauty Campaign. The event and panel’s theme was how social media affects mental health. (Highly recommend watching the video on Youtube)

I wanted to show how seeing images of perfection and constantly consuming curated identities can impact self esteem. I drew dotted outlines of faces with incomplete features to symbolize how social media personas are only a shell of a person. There is so much more to someone than the face they share online with the world.

With this artwork, I tried to capture the pressure to look perfect for our youth. It’s important to ground yourself outside of the online realm and understand how multi faceted young women are outside of our appearance. We have so much more to offer that isn’t seen on social media. We must strive to cultivate a culture that supports young women’s talents, ambitions and dreams that go beyond likes and comments.
