Inspired by Francis Bacon’s geometry and brutal subjects, I created this artwork to reflect unsettling imagery that nearly passes safe-to-consume levels.
By combining Bacon’s geometrical lines and forms to create the background for this piece (which typically contains more fluid shapes in my work) I explored layering and creating an eerie, flesh-like ambience. While Bacon explores muscle contortions and deformations, I still wanted to represent my own contour drawing style. The combination of the two created a sum that is larger than its parts and frankly, one of my favourite pieces in a while.
Vegan leather clutch painted with acrylic paint and sealed twice.
Inspired by Pablo Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907), this piece focuses on looser paint strokes and layering. The colours were inspired from the famous painting as well as the eye shape and anatomy. While the majority of my work thus far has concentrated on fine lines and clean edges, this artwork on this purse was the opposite. I wanted my lines to feel more organic instead of losing that in the process of perfection. From the process to its finish, this project is one of favourites and closer to what I want to create in the future.

These pastel colours remind me of spring time, while the brown paint and off-white base bring it all together. Negative space was so much fun to play with!

Collection of 12 // Each cotton tote one is hand painted with a new design, with its marker as a part of the collection at the back. I felt like this mini project helped me improve my painting skills, deconstruction and conceptual ideas. I experimented with symmetry and asymmetry, playing around with facial expressions and emphasizing negative space with larger colour blocks. (hand wash safe, gentle care)
Solo Showcase VI: I created my first tote bag collection to sell at my solo showcase in Summer 2018. This collection focused on small window-like blocks, some filled to represent light and some empty as negative space.
