As my first commissioned order, I'm so happy with how these came out. The burgandy and ever so light brown compliment illustrations inspired by DVSN and Kehlani. I chose to incorporate Japanese cherry blossoms alongside sketches of women of colour as a symbol of empowerment and how strength and beauty can coexist.

My very first pair, my babies. This is the pair that ignited everything and it started with wanting a new pair of shoes that represented my free spirit as an artist. The soft tones of baby pink represent femininity and peace and then the black linear work on top of the colour blocks symbolize strength and mobility. Pictured all over the shoe are faces that serve as a parallel to my many emotions and how each one ties to an identity and a certain time in my life. I think of myself as a woman, a person of colour, a literature, film and fashion enthusiast, a daughter, a creator, a voice and more ; All of these facets are painted differently in my head and they are illustrated in bits and pieces on the shoes. Some look away into the future, some back into the past and some look straight at what is in front of them. This pair of shoes symbolize a great beginning for me and I hope you can see the gradual growth from my experimental stages with Pair I all the way through.

I remember creating my very own first pair in December 2017 and feeling so special wearing something that represented my art and myself without having to speak. Pair I is like my first born child and every pair following is dear to me in their own way.
The colour blocks are definitely the staple to this collection and I have fallen in love with the peace that straight lines and solid colour bring me. They continue to inspire me through making bold yet minimal statements in my own way while expressing myself more explicitly through the fine ink work. The harmony of the large coloured bodies with the intricate linear designs is a strong identifying point of my work and if you study it closely the style becomes recognizable.
